DiBacco to begin as coach

DiAndra DiBacco begins her first year as an assistant coach at Westminster College in the 2013 season.

DiBacco was a four-year letter-winner and starter at second base for Westminster from 2007-11. She start ed in all 148 games of her career. DiBacco is tied for most sacrifices in a season in Westmin ster softball history with 16. A two-year captain for the Titans, DiBacco earned second-team all-PAC honors in 2009 and 2011.

DiBacco was also tabbed on the PAC Honor Roll in 2009.

A Boardman native, and 2010 Cardinal Mooney graduate, DiBacco earned her bachelor’s degree in communications studies with a minor in public relations from Westminster in 2011. DiBacco currently is working on her master’s at Westminster.

Boys track compete in Akron

The Boardman boys indoor track team sent three athletes to the Ohio State Indoor Championship Meet at The University of Akron last weekend. Representing the Spartans were senior Nathan Jones and juniors Alan Burns and Mark Hadley.

Hadley achieved All-Ohio honors by placing second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:12. The time is a new BHS indoor track school record. Also earning All-Ohio status was Burns, thanks to his seventh-place finish in the 3200-meter run in a time of 9:44.

Jones finished 11th overall in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.09.

The Spartans will open the outdoor track season on April 5 at The Dover Mini-Relays.

Soccer club registration

Registration for the 2013 summer recreational soccer league will run through April 15 for only $90 and must be done online. The summer league runs June 24 to Aug. 2 and is open to all players ages 4-13 in Canfield and the surrounding communities.

The club runs safe, relaxed coed games with sanctioned referees at their home fields at Township Park on Herbert Road. Team and community sign sponsorships are available plus new and improved coaching clinics and training. Visit www.canfieldsoccerclub.org for complete details.

Runners compete in national indoor meet

The Boardman boys indoor track team sent four athletes to the 2013 New Balance Indoor National Track Meet March 8-10 in New York City.

Highlighting the Spartans’ success was junior Mark Hadley, who finished 11th overall in the Varsity Elite Mile with a time of 4:15. That time sets the BHS indoor record for the event.

Senior Nathan Jones placed 24th in the Varsity Elite 60 with a time of 7.08. Freshman Nathan Hadley was 18th in the ninth-grade mile with a time of 4:38. Also, freshman Brendon Lucas was 24th in the ninth-grade 60 with a time of 7.68.
