Fire damages home, truck in Howland

A Sunday morning fire heavily damaged a two-story house at 1739 North River Road NE, and a pickup truck parked next to it, but all occupants evacuated the structure before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported.
Howland firefighters were assisted by Bazetta and Youngstown Air Reserve Station firefighters in battling the 9:54 a.m. blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A 26-year-old Lordstown man is facing charges of burglary and possession of criminal tools and drug- abuse instruments after police arrested him outside a house in the 3400 block of Cascade Drive. After a witness called 911 concerning a burglary in progress, city and Mill Creek MetroParks police surrounded the house and said they arrested Leslie James Tate Jr. as he emerged from it at 11:40 a.m. Friday. Police said they found jewelry, a screwdriver, box cutters, pipe cutters and a syringe on Tate, who was jailed. Police said Tate admitted taking the jewelry from the house, whose east side door was pried open while its occupant was at work.
Antiques appraisal

The Youngstown HistoricalSFlbCenter of Industry and Labor is sponsoring an Antiques Appraisal Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Much like the “Antiques Roadshow” television program but without the cameras, the event will allow patrons to find out what their items are worth, satisfying curiosity and allowing for proper insurance valuations. There will be several appraisers available for consultation. Appraisers donating their time for the event are: former YSU History chairman Hugh Earnhart, Diane and Chris Klingemier, Michael Fluegar, Georgio Theofilus, Steve Graben and Ken Lane.
The cost of admission is $5 and for an additional $1, patrons also may visit the museum’s permanent exhibitions. Reservations are required only if bringing furniture to be appraised.
