Kasich praises Ohio budget changes to school funding

Friday, June 28, 2013

COLUMBUS (AP) — Gov. John Kasich is praising legislative leaders’ work on the new state budget, despite the absence of changes he sought for Ohio’s Medicaid system.

The Republican says he expects the Legislature to restructure the health care program by the end of the year.

Ohio Senate President Keith Faber and House Speaker William Batchelder joined Kasich today to discuss the budget approved by lawmakers Thursday. The $62 billion, two-year plan cuts personal income taxes and adds some abortion restrictions.

Kasich says the bill’s changes to school funding will revamp education because they emphasize graduation rates.

He is expected to sign the measure this weekend.
