Mexican restaurant to open in downtown Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Los Gallos, a local Mexican restaurant chain, is finalizing a deal to make the former Cafe Cimmento in the city’s downtown its seventh location.

Juan Lopez, the Boardman-based company’s district manager, confirmed today that Los Gallos will open at the downtown location in the next two to four months.

It would be the only Mexican restaurant in the city’s downtown business district.

Lou Frangos — whose company, USA Parking Systems Inc., owns the Plaza Parking Deck on East Boardman Street, where Los Gallos is looking to relocate — said a deal hasn’t been signed, but one is close.

Cafe Cimmento, which first opened in 2006, closed this past April with the owner saying the abundance of new restaurants downtown was a large factor in his decision to call it quits.

Los Gallos opened its first restaurant in Boardman in 2004. Since then, it’s opened five others, including four in the Mahoning Valley.
