Police found two guns and arrested two people while serving a search warrant about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday at a 2662 Cooper St. home on the South Side.

When officers from the vice squad and Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force arrived to serve the warrant no one answered the door, so they let themselves in through an unlocked door, reports said.

Inside a man later identified as Maurice Brooks, 26, tried to run away but an officer ordered him to get on the ground and he obeyed, reports said.

Police found a .38-caliber pistol and a .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun that had the serial number scratched out, reports said.

Also found inside were 12 pills, $396 in cash, two scales and a bag of heroin, reports said.

Taken into custody besides Brooks was Barry Hutchins, 25, on drug and weapon charges pending their arraignments in municipal court.
