Food program
YOUNGSTOWN
The Humility of Mary Health Partners community outreach department will offer a program called “Mindfulness vs. Mindlessness: Impact on the Foods We Choose,” from 1 to 3 p.m. July 23 at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center on Park Avenue west of St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Bridget Lackey, HMHP community health educator and a registered dietitian, said the program raises awareness about food and how to consciously make healthful food choices. Participants will sample foods in a more mindful way, and Lackey will discuss the risks of “mindless eating,” which she said is often related to emotions.
The program is open to the public. Registration is free but limited. Parking is available in front of the breast center. Call 330-480-2763 by July 16.
Foundation support
WARREN
Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation, a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, will make a $35,000 donation to the Avamar Foundation on Thursday at Avamar Gastroenterology, 9225 E. Market St.
The money will support Avamar Foundation’s mission to help financially disadvantaged elderly Trumbull County residents pay for prescription medication.
HMHP honors
Humility of Mary Health Partners Wound Care Centers at St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth Boardman health centers have received Center of Distinction Awards from Healogics Inc. in recognition of outstanding patient outcomes at both St. Joseph Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Medicine and St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center.
The Wound Care Center at St. Joseph achieved a 94 percent wound-healing rate within 28 median days and patient satisfaction of 92 percent; and the Wound Care Center at St. Elizabeth Boardman achieved a 91 percent wound-healing rate within 28 median days and patient satisfaction of 94 percent.

Akron Children’s Hospital is ranked in seven pediatric specialties in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013-14 Best Children’s Hospitals.

Akron Children’s rankings are: 22nd, orthopedics; 26th, cancer; 28th, neurology and neurosurgery; 29th, pulmonology; 31st, urology; 32, diabetes and endocrinology; and 37th, nephrology.
Hospital officials said Akron Children’s orthopedics program this year moved up 13 spots to 22nd place; and its neurology and neurosurgery and childhood cancer and blood-disorder programs each moved up nine places.
Program residents recognized at dinner

Five UPMC Horizon residents recently completed the Graduate Medical Education Program and were recognized at a dinner at Park Inn by Radisson.
The honorees and their immediate plans are Dr. Park Bateson, family medicine practice, Farrell, Pa.; Dr. Gregory Clabeaux, general surgery, fellowship in vascular surgery, Catholic Health System, Buffalo, N.Y.; Dr. Nicole Geissen, general surgery, fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago; Dr. Matthew Lisk Sr., internal medicine, hospitalist, Butler, Pa., Memorial Hospital; and Dr. Catherine Novosel, family medicine, Horizon Family Medicine-UPMC.
