Boardman eyesore - Terrace Motel - coming down next month

Monday, June 24, 2013

BOARDMAN — The township trustees accepted a $24,860 bid from Pro Quality Land Development Inc. out of Campbell for asbestos abatement and razing the Terrace Motel on Market Street.

Work is to begin July 8 and will be finished within 30 calendar days.

"What this symbolizes is a couple things," Trustee Larry Moliterno said during a press conference at this afternoon. "It symbolizes the partnership we have with [Mahoning] county. ... I think it also shows the commitment of the township to say that we are going to work very hard to maintain the integrity of our neighborhoods."

Moliterno added this is only the beginning for the township to rid itself of eyesores.

"We have a number of houses that we have also on tap to be demoed," Moliterno said. "We're going to be working closely within our community, and with our neighborhoods, to make sure that we take care of these types of properties."

The township received a $75,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant program that will be used to fund the demolition and asbestos abatement.
