POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

June 11

Arrest: Police charged a 14-year-old Poland girl with being an unruly juvenile and obstructing official business.

June 12

Assault: A Petersburg woman received a minor injury before reporting an acquaintance had assaulted her in the 6700 block of Clingan Road.

June 14

Trespassing: A Venloe Drive woman reported someone had trespassed on her property.

BOARDMAN

June 13

Theft: Lori A. York, 45, of 3460 Irma St., Boardman, was charged in the theft of a $53 digital converter device from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Bad checks: Police in the 8100 block of Market Street took into custody 26-year-old Turesa L. Prieto, 762 Cambridge Ave., Youngstown, on a felony charge of passing bad checks. A neighbor told police she deposited in a Boardman bank four checks totaling $2,223 for Prieto that Prieto had written and signed before they bounced.

Drugs: Officers investigating a vehicular crash in the 1300 block of Boardman-Poland Road arrested 31-year-old Joseph J. Hardy upon learning Hardy, of 19 W. Glenaven Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a misdemeanor drug-abuse charge from Campbell.

Theft: A worker for a Market Street motel reported a tenant has failed to pay three weeks’ worth of rent.

Fraud: An Austintown man at a township bank learned someone in Amsterdam had made a $30 unauthorized withdrawal from his account.

Menacing: A Yarmouth Lane woman said a former business associate has been stalking the accuser and appearing unannounced at her home.

Theft: Jason C. Furbee, 30, of 4083 Arrel Road, Poland, faced charges of theft and receiving stolen property after three DVD players, a wireless adaptor and other items were stolen from Walmart.

Harassment: A Wilda Avenue woman told police a man called numerous times claiming she illegally ordered drugs online.

Theft: A $100 picnic table was stolen in the 4300 block of Hopkins Road.

Aggravated menacing: A Cascade Drive woman reported a man in Tampa, Fla., created a Facebook account posing as her husband. Also, someone reportedly threatened to have another person kill the husband.

Assault: A North Lima man in the 1300 block of Doral Drive said another man pushed him during a disagreement about a parking space.

Theft: Two men stole an undetermined amount of merchandise from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Robbery: A Montgomery, Pa., man reported that while in the 7200 block of South Avenue, a man and a woman age 18 to 21 in a gray vehicle pulled up, the woman asked to borrow his cellphone. When he realized they were trying to steal his phone, the driver sped away as the victim reached in the car in an effort to retrieve the device. The vehicle traveled 50 to 70 mph on U.S. Route 224 as the occupants refused to let the man go before he broke free of their grip and rolled across the road, the man and a witness told police.

Theft/criminal mischief: A Stratford Road woman reported an estimated $4,209 worth of property, including numerous pieces of jewelry, stolen and that her vehicle had been tampered with.

Aggravated menacing: A Canterbury Lane woman alleged her former boyfriend called threatening to kill the accuser and blow up her home.

June 14

Arrest: A traffic stop near Mathews Road resulted in 26-year-old Jarod L. Blakeman’s arrest. Blakeman, of 7632 Hitchcock Road, Boardman, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

Assault: A charge was pending against a woman after a Youngstown man at Southern Park Mall alleged the woman had tossed a cup of urine, striking the accuser, before spitting on him.

Theft: A radio faceplate and a case of drinks were removed from a car in the 90 block of Larkridge Avenue.

Criminal damaging: Someone broke an apartment window in the 400 block of Rockdale Avenue. The damage came to $100.

Theft: A man stole a cellphone and another item from Family Dollar, 4028 South Ave. The phone was soon recovered.

Harassment: A Mapleridge Drive woman said she got 10 such calls.

Criminal damaging: Two vehicles in the 100 block of Maple Drive were found with scratches on their roofs. One of the cars also had a dent in its door.

Theft: A Glenwood Avenue woman noticed her $390 cellphone was stolen.

Vehicle theft: A 1996 Bobcat vehicle was stolen in the 200 block of Wildwood Drive.

Drugs: Authorities responded to a report of someone passed out next to a West Western Reserve Road automated-teller machine before charging 24-year-old Daniel C. Pierce, 957 E. Calla Road, Poland, with one felony drug-possession count. Pierce had two bindles of suspected heroin, police said.

Employee theft: Patricia J. Keel, 46, of 530 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, faced a felony theft charge after an official with Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road, alleged Keel had stolen more than $1,400 worth of merchandise over the last two years.

Drugs: A suspicious vehicle in the 1300 block of Doral Drive drew officers’ attention before they charged 27-year-old Crystal D. Steinbeck, 858 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, with abusing a harmful intoxicant, a first-degree misdemeanor. Police saw a 10-ounce can of compressed air in Steinbeck’s car and she admitted having used it to get high, a report said.

Theft: Police at the Mahoning County jail booked Michelle L. O’Donahue, 39, of 7165 Locust Ave., Boardman, and Daniel J. Tucci, 44, of 4637 Yarmouth Lane, Boardman. Both were accused of stealing about $460 worth of perfume and clothing as well as a $22 pair of flip-flops from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Harassment: An Old Oxford Lane woman said a man has made such calls, including one in which he bribed her by offering her money if she refused to press charges in another matter.

Theft/illegal dumping: A Maple Drive man reported someone threw several bags of garbage on his truck bed, then stole a gas can.

Domestic violence: Scott D. Brokos, 35, of 5003 Friendship Ave., Boardman, was arrested in Youngstown and charged with making domestic-violence threats after his girlfriend alleged Brokos had called her more than 30 times and in one call threatened to kill her.

June 15

Laser discharge: A pilot attempting to land a helicopter at Akron Children’s Hospital, 6505 Market St., reported someone on or near Sciota Avenue deliberately shined a silver laser light in the aircraft’s cockpit, a second-degree felony. The pilot also was to contact the Federal Aviation Administration, a police report said.

Employee theft: An employee for Ianazone’s Pizza, 7271 West Blvd., alleged a co-worker failed to return after a delivery and kept $80 and various pieces of equipment.

Trespassing: Officers answered a complaint regarding a man begging for money in the 7200 block of Market Street before charging 46-year-old John A. Hill, 212 S. Truesdale Ave., Youngstown, with criminal trespassing and issuing him a minor-misdemeanor citation charging he knowingly solicited for money without a permit. Hill also had been warned to stay off the property, a report stated.

Theft: A cigarette-rolling machine was missing from Smoker Friendly, 4927 Market St.

Theft: Kristina M. Felleti, 30, of 738 Oakridge Drive, Boardman, was charged in the theft of two pairs of women’s jeans from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Harassment: A Woodrow Avenue man said his former girlfriend made and sent numerous unwanted calls and text messages to him.

Identity fraud: A Harrisburg, N.C., man discovered his credit card had been used to make about $400 worth of unauthorized purchases at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a Newport Drive residence apparently through a side window before removing an undetermined amount of copper piping.

June 16

Theft: A Poland man reported the theft of his cellphone while at Southern Park Mall.

Domestic violence: Brian A. Dixon, 34, of 4055 South Ave., Boardman, was charged after a woman alleged Dixon, during an argument, used a knife to cut a pair of pants she was wearing and bent her arms behind her back.

Arrest: A traffic stop on East Midlothian Boulevard resulted in the arrest of William B. Hogan of 859 Boston Ave., Youngstown, when police discovered the 43-year-old man was wanted on two warrants accusing him of failing to appear in court.

Theft: A West Boulevard man noticed his wallet and a set of distributor-cap wires missing from his vehicle.

Burglary: A man in the 50 block of Indianola Road awoke to someone kicking in a side door to his residence. The homeowner then saw a man standing nearby before the burglar fled.

Theft: A woman age 30 to 35 stole 12 silver flasks valued at $74 from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft: A Youngstown woman noticed $225 missing from her car while in the 6300 block of South Avenue.

Menacing: A man left a township movie theater and found a note affixed to his windshield that implied his car intentionally would be damaged. The author apparently was angry about the accuser’s having taken a parking space.

Thefts: A man stole 12 packs of razors from CVS Pharmacy, 7230 Market St., before police received a complaint that the same person apparently stole 30 to 40 boxes of razors from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 307 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: A man reported his debit card stolen while at a Market Street store.
