Fitch’s Davis brothers headed to Kentucky
AUSTINTOWN
Austintown Fitch High graduates Chris and Demitrious Davis will transfer to Kentucky from the University of Pittsburgh football team.
The twin brothers redshirted the past season at Pitt and opted to leave the program after spring practice. They will join Cardinal Mooney graduates Braylon Heard (who is transferring from Nebraska) and Marcus McWilson (an incoming freshman) at UK, where Mooney graduate Mark Stoops is entering his first season as head coach.
Chris will play defensive back while Demetrious expects to play running back/wide receiver.
Niles tackle Krok commits to WVU
NILES
Niles senior offensive tackle Josh Krok verbally committed to West Virginia on Wednesday, choosing the Mountaineers over several schools including Cincinnati and Louisville.
Krok (6-9, 297) earned first team all-conference honors last season for the Red Dragons, who went 8-3 and advanced to the first round of the playoffs. Krok’s grandfather, John, was an All-America nose tackle at Syracuse in the 1960s.
Brad Smith’s camp is Saturday at YSU

Brad Smith’s True Foundation Buffalo Bills Brad Smith’s True Foundation’s 6th annual Football Camp will be Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Youngstown State University’s Stambaugh Stadium.
Smith, a Chaney High graduate, is a Buffalo Bills receiver who was recently nominated for the NFL’s Bart Starr Award given annually to a NFL player who best exemplifies outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community.
This camp will allow for young players to interact and learn from talented coaches as well as NFL players, both past and present.
Warren to dedicate volleyball courts
WARREN
Mayor Doug Franklin will dedicate the new volleyball courts at Perkins today at noon.
The courts are a collaboration between the City of Warren and Warren City Schools. The Warren Harding volleyball team will be present for demonstrations.
Poland’s Mancini advances in Dayton

Poland golfer Maria Mancini who plays for Indiana University defeated Emily Tofaute of Louisville, Ky., 164-167, in the Women’s Western Golf Association’s 113th National Amateur Championship at Dayton Country Club.
Today, Mancini will play against Meghan Schuetz of Bloomington, Ill.
Mill Creek sets tennis tournament

The Mill Creek MetroParks Tennis Open from June 27-30 will be contested at James L. Wick Jr. Recreation Area, Volney Rogers Field and Yellow Creek Park in Struthers. It’s the park’s first tournament sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association in more than 20 years.
Men’s and women’s singles divisions offer Open, 35s, 50s and 65s. Juniors singles divisions for boys and girls offer include 10s, 12s and 16s. Doubles divisions are in 14-under, 18-under, Open, 35-over and 55-over. Mixed doubles is offered in 12-under, 18-under, Open, 35-over and 55-over. The format will be first match consolation with best of three sets and match tiebreaker instead of a third set.
Entry fee is $28 for first singles and $18 for second one. Doubles fees are $12 per player for the first and $8 for the second.
Players must be USTA members and have their USTA number. Participants may enter online via USTA website www.USTA.com or fill out an application and pay at Mill Creek MetroParks Administrative office located across from the Canfield Fairgrounds at 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield. Entry forms may be mailed to Jim Willock, Mill Creek MetroParks, PO Box 596, Canfield, Ohio, 44406.
Deadlines are Saturday for online and Monday at the office.
