It took some time, but police arrested a man wanted on four warrants Tuesday afternoon at a South Side home.

Police and officers with the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force went to a 229 Lowell Ave. home about 2:45 p.m. to arrest Terrance Rushton, 30, who was wanted on warrants for failure to comply, possession of heroin and two traffic charges.

When they pulled up to the home, a woman on the front porch ran inside and locked the front and side doors, reports said. Officers went to the front door and knocked and told her why they were there. The woman said she wanted to call police herself, reports said, and officers told her they would make the call for her, reports said.

The woman said police could not come in unless they had a search warrant and the officers said they were on the phone with a prosecutor to get one, and they also warned the woman if Rushton was there and she denied it she would be arrested, reports said.

Reports said the woman told police “there is no one here by that name.”

A witness told police Rushton was inside the home, and when the woman’s mother pulled up, police told her her daughter would be arrested for obstruction of justice if they found Rushton inside the home. A few moments later, Rushton came out, reports said.

Rushton was taken to the Mahoning County jail. The woman was not taken into custody or charged.
