Columbus records its 50th homicide this year

COLUMBUS (AP) — Police in Columbus say a convenience store clerk has been fatally shot during a robbery.

Officers said two men robbed the Convenient Plus Food Mart on the city’s east side at about 11 p.m. Wednesday. At least one of them shot an employee, 34-year-old Imran Ashgar, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other employees who were at the store were not hurt, and a number of fleeing witnesses were seen.

Surveillance video shows both of the robbers brandishing handguns. Ashgar was unarmed.

Police said it was the city’s 50th homicide of 2013.
