The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theater presented “A Bagful of Fables” at the Poland library July 8.
The show, directed by Carla D. Gipson, was a collection of five of Aesop’s fables including, “The Fox and the Crow,” “The Fox and the Grapes,” “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” and “The Wind and the Sun.”
“Each of the fables has a moral ending,” said Gipson.
“A Bagful of Fables” is part of the Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theater’s summer library tour, which goes through 12 libraries in Mahoning County.
Gipson said the playhouse, the mixture of art and education is good for the children.
“It encourages reading. Not only do they get to see a piece of literature live, but hopefully it will make them want to check out more books,” said Gipson. “The mixture of arts and education together really reaches kids on a whole other level.”
Children attending the event received one-hour toward their summer reading log and were entered in a chance to win a prize.
Amanda Kollar, children’s librarian commended the Playhouse.
“They always do a really great job,” said Kollar.
