Coupon food drive
YOUNGSTOWN
Through March 31, customers can help “Check Out Hunger” and provide food to people in need in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties by tearing off a $1, $5 or $10 coupon at the cash register at any Giant Eagle or Sparkle Market.
The donation will be added to their grocery bill and benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley’s March Harvest for Hunger campaign. Also, nonperishable food items may be placed in designated bins at the front of the stores.
Last year, Giant Eagle stores collected $62,722, which enabled the Food Bank to distribute $940,830 worth of food. In 2012, Sparkle Markets raised $5,100 through the donation coupons, enabling the Food Bank to distribute $76,500 worth of food to people in the tri-county area.
CD sales donation
YOUNGSTOWN
SounDoctrine will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from its CD sales and music downloads during March to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley’s Harvest for Hunger.
Second Harvest distributes food to 153 hunger-relief organizations in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Each week, the food bank and its member agencies are filling more than 15,000 requests for emergency food assistance in the Mahoning Valley.
New doctors
SHARON, PA.
Dr. Randon C. Simmons, a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, and Dennis P. Love, a certified physician assistant, have joined Sharon Regional Health System’s Behavioral Health Services unit, coming from the Irene Stacy Community Mental Health Center, Butler, Pa., where Dr. Simmons was medical director and director of the Children’s Department.
Dr. Simmons and Love will provide brief psychotherapy, medication management, consultation and evaluations for child, adolescent and adult patients at Behavioral Health Services outpatient office, 2375 Garden Way, Hermitage, Pa., and at the Mercer Family Medicine Center, 551 Greenville Road, Mercer, Pa. Dr. Simmons also will see patients in Sharon Regional’s behavioral health inpatient unit.
Surgeon relocated
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Dr. William Gilleland, board-certified general surgeon, has relocated to Jameson Health System Surgical Specialties, 26 Nesbitt Place, Neshannock Township, Pa. Doctor Gilleland, medical director of the Jameson Hospital Center for Wound Healing, has been a member of the Jameson Medical/Dental staff since 1994.
Sharing Dr. Gilleland’s suites are Drs. Fernando Hayetian, board-certified general surgeon, who performs open and laparoscopic minimally invasive abdominal procedures; Majed Maalouf, board certified in general and cosmetic surgery; Steven Hand, who specializes in total joint replacement and reconstructive surgery; and Ken Molinero, board-certified in orthopedic trauma surgery.
Service award
AKRON
The Employee Foundation Council at Akron Children’s Hospital presented Dr. Haynes Robinson with its Distinguished Service Award for 2012.
Established in 1979, the award is given annually to an employee who demonstrates exemplary leadership, loyalty, dedication and service. Honorees are nominated by fellow employees and voted upon by EFC.
After he completed medical school at Ohio State University in 1962, Dr. Robinson, an Akron resident, was interested in pediatrics, pathology and genetics, and is founder of the Genetics Center at Akron Children’s and co-director of the Fetal Treatment Center, which he created with neonatologist Dr. Gary Benfield and genetic counselor Melonie Michelson.
