WRTA to purchase 48 full-size buses over next 5 years

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

YOUNGSTOWN — The local transit authority has authorized an estimated $19.7 million in spending for replacement buses over the next five years.

Trustees of the Western Reserve Transit Authority have authorized the purchase of up to 48 new full-size, fixed-route buses and four new para-transit buses, all to replace buses to be retired from the authority’s existing fleet.

Eighty percent of the cost of the full-size regular route buses, estimated to cost about $400,000 each, will be paid by Federal Transit Administration funds, and 20 percent from local sales tax levy money.

The trustees made the decision at their meeting today.
