Lt. Gov. Taylor touts Kasich’s tax plan for small businesses

YOUNGSTOWN — Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor spoke today with local company officials about the governor’s tax plan that includes a 50 percent tax cut for small businesses.

The cut, if approved by the state Legislature, would make it “easier to do business” in Ohio, and attract companies to the state, Taylor said at City Machine Technologies Inc., a machine repair shop on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard that employs 74 workers.

This was the first small-business panel discussion Taylor, a Republican, has had with small business owners since the governor introduced his proposed $63.3 billion, two-year budget proposal on Feb. 4.

The proposal calls for sweeping changes to the state’s tax system.

Overall, the proposal would save $1.4 billion over three years, according to state tax officials.

Democrats criticize the plan saying the proposal “will actually have a negative impact on our economy,” said Jerid Kurtz, Ohio Democratic Party spokesman.
