Rules-commission post

Atty. Mark A. Huberman, chief magistrate of Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court, has been appointed vice-chairman of the Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure in Ohio Courts. The Ohio Supreme Court appointed him to a two-year term in that position on the commission, which reviews those rules.

SCOUTS

Eagle awards

Three Boy Scouts from Troop 80, chartered to Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, have earned their Eagle Scout awards, Boy Scouting’s highest honor.

They are Sebastian Calvin, Kent Hilderbrand and Parker Winkel. Scoutmaster is Tod Winkel, Parker’s father.

Calvin, a son of William and Vicki Calvin of North Lima, has been involved in scouting since 2004. He earned his Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Pack 116 in Greenford. He joined Troop 80 in 2007 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, scribe and troop guide.

He has earned 26 merit badges, four 2010 centennial merit badges, the World Conservation Award, Tote and Chit, Fire and Chit, Fifty Miler and Historic Trails awards.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Calvin planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the construction of a one-fourth mile natural trail for Paradise United Church of Christ.

He is a sophomore at South Range High School, where he is a member of the concert and marching bands, soccer, cross country and track teams and a member of the student council. Calvin is a member of Paradise United and participates in the church youth group.

Kent Hilderbrand, a son of Donna Slagle and Kurt Hilder-brand of Poland, has been involved in scouting since 2004. He earned his Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Pack 116 in Greenford. He joined Troop 80 in 2007 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, quartermaster and scribe.

While a member of Troop 80, Hilderbrand was elected to the Order of the Arrow and is a Brotherhood member of Wapashuwi Lodge 56. He is the troop’s OA representative and chief of the Neatoka Lodge.

Hilderbrand has earned 36 merit badges, four 2010 centennial merit badges, attended the 2010 National Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Va., and participated in a 14-day, 125-mile backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M., in 2011. His other awards include God and Country, World Conservation, Tote and Chit and Fire and Chit.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Hilderbrand planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the installation of handicap-accessible bathroom fixtures at St. James Episcopal Church.

Hilderbrand is a sophomore at South Range High School, where he is on the varsity track team and a member of the marching and concert bands. He is a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Boardman and serves as acolyte and participates in the youth group.

Parker Winkel, son of Laurie and Tod Winkel of North Lima, has been involved in scouting since 2004. He earned his Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Pack 116 in Greenford. He joined Troop 80 in 2007 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader.

Winkel has earned 33 merit badges and four 2010 centennial merit badges and participated in a 14-day, 125-mile backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M., in 2011. He also has earned the World Conservation, Tote and Chit, Fire and Chit and Fifty Miler awards.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Winkel planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the construction of display cases for Mount Olivet United Church of Christ.

Winkel is a senior at South Range High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society. He is a member of Mount Olivet and participates in the youth group and as a junior deacon.
