1988: Mayor Patrick Ungaro wants Youngstown State University to conduct a census of sorts of the homeless people in the city, the first step in setting up an assistance program for the homeless.

Two-year-old Teralynn Landis undergoes her second liver transplant at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Three men and a woman have been charged with firebombing the Winfield Street home of Youngstown Patrolman Robert Barnes and his wife, Sally, who is a patrolwoman at Youngstown State University.

1973: Two Rayen students, 15 and 17 years old, are arrested on charges of delinquency for $1,500 damage in vandalism to Rayen School.

Parents of more than 30,000 pupils in schools in the six-county Diocese of Youngstown paid $5.6 million in tuition in the 1971-72 school year, an increase of $2.3 million over a year earlier, says Msgr. Benedict C. Franzetta, diocesan treasurer.
