Rivers Casino bus trip planned

Team Schein is hosting a bus trip to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, PA on March 22. Participants will depart from 760 Boardman Canfield Road at 5 p.m. and will return to the same location approximately 12:30 a.m.

The cost is $30 per person and this includes $20 in free play and $5 food voucher. All seats are non-refundable. Checks are to be made payable to: Tina Prestas, 760 Boardman Canfield Road, Boardman, OH 44512

Local dealerships named No. 1 in sales

Final sales figures published by the Automotive Dealer’s Association of Eastern Ohio mark 2012 as the seventh consecutive year the dealerships owned by David A. Flynn ranked No. 1 in automotive sales with a combined total of 6,526 vehicles, outselling the next local competitor by 1,575 new and used vehicles.

The Flynn dealerships, the largest auto group in Northeast Ohio, include Columbiana Cadillac Buick Chevrolet in Columbiana; The Honda Store and Donnell Ford in Boardman; Donnell Ford Lincoln of Salem; Power Chevrolet Buick GMC in Calcutta and Performance Trucks in New Waterford.

Auxiliary to meet Tuesday

The Sulmona Valley Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday at noon at Johnny’s Restaurant, Market Street.

Grant writing workshop offered

The Ohio Environmental Education Fund is offering a free grant writing workshop on March 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Mill Creek Metro-Park Farm in Canfield. The first part of the workshop will give the attendees prospecting tips to help them identify foundations, corporations, and government grant programs, and how to approach different kinds of grant makers. The second part will focus on OEEF grants offered by the state of Ohio. If you would like to increase environmental awareness at your school or organization and help get some funds to do this, send a representative to this workshop.

St. Patrick’s Day celebration set

The Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will host its fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on March 9 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at St. Nicholas Social Hall. The cost is $27.50 per person and will include traditional Irish fare, a cash bar, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and music from the band “Sound Around Town.”

Audubon Society program set

Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Plants to Attract Specific Birds,” a program by Eric Barrett from Mahoning County’s Ohio State Extension office. The program will take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on Route 46 in Canfield. For more information, call 888-846-8851.

MCCTC cosmetology students open salon

Cosmetology students at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center have opened The Salon at MCCTC for afternoon hours to the public. Salon hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and now noon to 2 p.m.

The junior and senior cosmetology students will offer haircuts, styling, perms, hair color, manicures and hair removal. All services are performed by students under the supervision of their instructor and prices start at just $5. Wine and beer tasting in Boardman

Team Schein is hosting a wine and beer tasting at Vintage Estates Wine and Beer in Boardman tomorrow from 3-5 p.m.

The cost is $20 per person and includes eight tastings. Choose from six wine selections or 12 beers on tap from the Diamond bar, hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment by Ryan Ross. You must be 21 years of age to purchase a ticket and attend the event.

Blood drive

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross is proudly serving the needs of St. Elizabeth Hospital by taking blood donations to help the community Monday from 1:30-6:30 p.m. at the Boardman library.

Making Kids Count benefit dinner

On March 15, Making Kids Count will host its first benefit dinner at Avion on the Water in Canfield. Proceeds from the event will go to the various programs Making Kids Count sponsors. This event will include dinner, dessert, a cash bar, chance auction and entertainment. Invitations will be mailed in February.
