Cops: Robbers beat cabbie, stuff him in trunks

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say they’re looking for two men responsible for a holdup in which a South Philadelphia taxi driver was beaten, choked with a belt and stuffed in a trunk.

Police say the driver picked up the men at 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby on Feb. 14. They say one man took off his belt and wrapped it around the driver’s neck while the other man took $100 from the driver’s pockets.

Authorities say the men then asked for the cabbie’s credit card security numbers and beat him over the head until he complied.

Police say the men stuffed the driver in the trunk and drove around for 20 minutes before freeing him.

The driver is in critical but stable condition with more than 100 staples in his head.
