Police say a man who was warned to stay out of his parents’ South Side home returned Thursday morning and beat them both and also threw a small puppy across a room.
David White Jr., 27, was arraigned Friday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly in Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated burglary. He remains in Mahoning County jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
Officers Joe Moran and Michael Cox were called to White’s parents’ home in the 2000 block of Thalia Avenue just after 9 a.m. for a fight. When they arrived, they saw White’s mother, who had several bruises and cuts. She told officers she was afraid her son would kill her.
The officers went inside and found White asleep on a couch. Reports said his mother told officers he had fallen asleep after getting drunk. He was handcuffed while he was on the couch, reports said.
An ambulance was called for White’s mother and officers also reminded White he was given a trespass warning to stay out of the house the day before, reports said.
White’s mother told police her son had come to the home earlier in the morning after he had been drinking and asked for something. When his mother opened the door slightly, he forced his way in, tackled his mother, smashed her phone and banged her head into the floor.
He dragged her by the hair across the kitchen floor. When the father tried to stop the attack, White held a knife to his throat, reports said. Police also said he told his parents to stand in a corner and held them both against their will for more than an hour.
During the incident, White threw the dog, which weighs about 10 pounds, across the room. Reports did not mention its condition.
White’s father told police his son is an alcoholic and was also off his medication.
