What’s open/closed

A checklist of local, state and federal institutions and local businesses closed various days for the New Year’s holiday. Residents of communities not listed should check their governmental office schedules.

City offices: Youngstown, Niles, Salem, Sharon, Newton Falls Municipal Court, closed Wednesday; New Castle, closing noon Tuesday and closed Wednesday; Warren, closing 1 p.m. Tuesday and closed Wednesday.

County offices: Mahoning, Lawrence, Mercer, Columbiana, closed Wednesday; Trumbull, closing 12:30 p.m Tuesday and closed Wednesday.

All state offices: closed Wednesday.

Federal offices: closed Wednesday.

Schools: Warren, closing 3 p.m. Tuesday and closed Wednesday; Youngstown, Niles, Salem, closed Tuesday and Wednesday; New Castle, closed through Wednesday; Sharon, closed through Friday.

Universities: Youngstown State, closed Wednesday; Kent State at Trumbull, closed through Thursday.

Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA): No night service Tuesday and closed Wednesday.

Public libraries: Youngstown-Mahoning County, closed Wednesday; Kinsman Free Public Library, Girard Free Library, Bristol Public Library-Bristolville, McKinley Memorial Library-Niles, closed Tuesday and Wednesday; Warren-Trumbull, Newton Falls Public Library, Hubbard Public Library, early closing 5 p.m. Tuesday and closed Wednesday.

Stock market: closed Wednesday.

Banks: Chase Bank, Charter One, Huntington Bank-Austintown, First Place Bank-Warren, closed Wednesday; Cortland Banks, closing 1 p.m. Tuesday and closed Wednesday; Home Federal Savings & Loan-Niles, Key Bank, closing 3 p.m. Tuesday and closed Wednesday; First National Bank, Home Savings & Loan, PNC Ohio, PNC Pennsylvania, Farmers National Bank, closing 4 p.m. Tuesday and closed Wednesday.

Trash collection: Allison Brothers Inc., Allied Waste/ Republic Services, Waste Management, Warren City Environmental Services, Waste-Tech Services, all closed Wednesday, service delayed by one day.
