Warren man with rifle charged with inducing panic

WARREN

John R. Taylor, 53, of Atlantic Street Northeast is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and inducing panic after a neighbor reported that Taylor knocked on their door at 1:46 a.m. Friday asking if they wanted to buy a rifle.

The neighbor described Taylor walking from the apartment toward North Park Avenue. Police found Taylor getting into a vehicle parked in a driveway on nearby Mercer Street Northeast and found a rifle in a towel in the back seat of the car.

He was charged with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon for not having a concealed-carry license and misdemeanor inducing panic for frightening the neighbor, police said.

Police also charged Jeffrey Selep, 32, of Larry Lane in Cortland with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and a 17-year-old male from Warren and a 15-year-old female with a curfew violation for being inside the car at that hour.
