Former school worker pleads guilty

WARREN

Honeya D. Price, 42, of Perkinswood Boulevard Northeast, a former family liaison at the Warren City Schools Lincoln K-8 building, pleaded guilty Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

She will be sentenced after the county’s Adult Probation Department conducts a pre-sentence investigation. She could get up to 18 months in prison.

Price was charged with the offense Jan. 16 after police said she brandished a firearm in the parking lot of the Elm Road Giant Eagle while off work.

Township trustees meeting rescheduled

BROOKFIELD

Brookfield Township trustees’ year-end meeting, originally scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today, has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. today at the township administration building, 6844 Strimbu Drive.

Crash investigation

AUSTINTOWN

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post continues investigating a commercial injury crash that occurred at 3:34 p.m. Monday on the Interstate 80 eastbound off ramp to state Route 11 southbound.

According to the patrol report, Kevin L. McCurry, 46, of Sharpsville, Pa., lost control of his vehicle and it drifted off the left side of the roadway, where the tractor-trailer overturned and spilled its load of coal in the grassy median.

McCurry was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.

‘Kolachi and koledy’ event Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN

St. Casimir Society will sponsor a “kolachi and koledy” event from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Brier Hill Cultural Center, 145 Jefferson St.

The event will include a Polish and American carol sing-along featuring the St. Casimir Choir.

An appetizer reception will follow.

Cost is $10 at the door.

The cultural center is the former St. Casimir Church, which closed Feb. 25, 2012.

This event recalls the church tradition of a midnight Mass with carol-singing followed by a reception.

2 city firefighters are promoted

YOUNGSTOWN

Two city firefighters were promoted Monday at a ceremony at the main fire station in downtown Youngstown.

Carl Farina, an 11-year veteran, was promoted from firefighter to lieutenant, and Charles Smith, who has served for 12 years, made the rank of captain from his previous post as lieutenant.

Both men replaced retired personnel, said fire Chief John O’Neill.

2 Howland men plead not guilty to burglary charges

WARREN

Two Howland men are in Trumbull County jail, charged with the burglary of a home on Bayberry Drive Northeast in Howland.

Not-guilty pleas were entered Monday in Warren Municipal Court for Jesse Ellsworth, 19, of Bayberry Drive Northeast and Derek Hopson, 18, of Dawson Drive Southeast.

A judge set bond at $5,000 for each.

They are accused of breaking into the home while the owners were gone.

The residents reported thst a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville, a high-definition television and several pieces of jewelry were missing.

If convicted as charged, each man could get up to five years in prison.
