Warren police investigate weekend shootings, other robberies, assaults, rape

WARREN

Police investigated a Friday-night shooting at a residence on 2nd Street Southwest that caused a major injury to D’Marko P. Harper, 22 of Lener Avenue Southwest.

Police recovered six shell casings when they responded to the Highland Terrace apartments for shots fired at 9:36 p.m. They found Harper with at least one gunshot wound. A police report doesn’t say what hospital he went to or how seriously injured he is.

Warren police did not return phone calls about the shooting Friday evening when contacted by The Vindicator.

It was one of numerous incidents of violence and robbery police investigated over the weekend.

At 2:52 p.m. Friday, police were called to a West Market Street restaurant for a robbery that had occurred in the 1700 block of Ferndale Avenue Southwest.

A 32-year-old Canton woman reported being robbed of $350 in cash and a cell phone.

Police were called to the 200 block of Idylwild Street Northeast at 9:51 p.m. Saturday for a felonious assault and improper discharge of a firearm that injured a 56-year-old Austin Avenue woman, 17-year-old Austin Avenue girl and 28-year-old Idylwild Street girl.

Police said the type of injuries suffered by the 56-year-old and 17-year-old were unknown, and the injuries to the 16-year-old were apparently minor.

Police recovered six spent shell casings at the scene after being called there for shots fired. Police provided no further information.

Police were called to the Elm Road Giant Eagle at 12:54 a.m. Sunday for an aggravated robbery, which means the incident involved the use or threat of a weapon.

The victim was a 23-year-old Elm Road woman who reported $1,012 had been taken. Police provided no information on what was taken and provided no description of the suspect or the type of weapon used.

Police responded to a robbery at Circle K, 606 North Park Avenue, for a robbery at 1:10 p.m. Saturday.

A 49-year-old Fourth Street Southwest man reported that $27 in currency and several pills had been stolen. The victim also was taken into custody on a warrant.

Police provided no information on the suspect who committed the robbery.

Police arrested Venita McCall, 31, of Cleveland at 5:32 a.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of Ogden Avenue Northwest, charging her with felonious assault involving a severe laceration to a 5-year-old Ogden Avenue Avenue boy and a “major injury” to a 29-year-old Ogden Avenue woman.

Police were called there for disturbance and found people fighting. They confiscated several pills. No other information on how the woman and boy were injured was provided by Warren police.

Police were called to Trumbull County Children Services at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a juvenile had assaulted three Children Services employees. Police provided no information on the type of injuries or whether medical attention was required.

Police also investigated a rape complaint filed at 8:06 a.m. Friday on Berkshire Drive Southeast.
