Pa. state police issue report on school safety
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pennsylvania state police have released a report aimed at helping public and private schools boost security.
The report is the first of its kind to be issued by state police. It says many schools are vulnerable to attack by an armed intruder.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the report recommends that schools maintain a security force, install closed-circuit TVs, upgrade locks, hold regular drills and take other safety measures.
Donald Smith is emergency planning and response coordinator for the nonprofit Center for Safe Schools in Camp Hill. He says a majority of schools are already following some of the recommendations.
