Ohio teen killed when train hits pickup truck

ASHTABULA, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a teenager was killed when the pickup truck he was riding in was hit by train at a northeast Ohio crossing over the weekend.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the 18-year-old was killed Saturday morning when the pickup was hit by a northbound Norfolk and Southern train near Ashtabula.

The patrol’s Sgt. Keith Palmer tells The Star-Beacon newspaper of Ashtabula that the truck couldn’t stop in the snow and slid into the path of the train.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck’s 20-year-old driver was hospitalized. Their names haven’t been released, and the crash is still under investigation.
