“We want to ensure Ohioans don’t lose sight of or forget the debt of gratitude our veterans deserve. We owe them support whether it is assuring them gainful employment, education/training, medical care or simply acknowledging and expressing appreciation for defending us and our way of life,” Gorrell said.

CIVIL AIR PATROL

Award received

VIENNA

The Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station here has been awarded the Quality Cadet Unit Award For the fourth-consecutive year by the CAP National Headquarters.

To receive the award, the squadron had to meet a series of standards including cadet-orientation rides in CAP aircraft, cadets had to attend a military style encampment, there had to be growth and retention of cadets enrolled in the program, and cadets had to demonstrate excellence in the Aerospace Education Program.

Of the 1,047 CAP units across the nation with cadets, only 272 earned the award for this year. The local squadron’s ranking within the award program places it in the top 12 percent in the nation. The YARS Composite Squadron, which has 70 cadets from the Mahoning Valley and Pennsylvania, meets Monday evenings at YARS.
