Tweens came to the Austintown library Aug. 6 dressed as their favorite god, demi-god, titan or monster to celebrate the movie release of “Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.” Olympian’s Quest: Gods and Titans and Monsters-Oh My! included food, games and crafts.

“Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters” opened in theaters Aug. 7. It is based on the second book in the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series by Rick Riordan. It continues the adventures of Percy Jackson and his friends as they search for the Golden Fleece at the Sea of Monsters.

Olympian’s Quest participants were able to make shields and bracelets similar to those in the book. They also practiced archery and played a Percy Jackson trivia game. A model of Percy Jackson stood in the room, and the tweens posed for photos with it. They took copies of the photos home with them.

Posing for the photo was a natural fit for Caitlyn Corbett. She came dressed as Annabeth, Percy’s girlfriend.

Corbett said she enjoys the Percy Jackson books and is looking forward to seeing the second movie. She also enjoyed the activities at the library event.

Cassie Sorber said she saw the first movie.

“I like that [Percy Jackson is] going to Camp Half-Blood and then he’s trying to escape all the monsters and trying to be a hero,” Sorber said.

Sorber is looking forward to the second movie.

“I like the Greeks gods and what they do and their powers,” she said.

She came to the Olympian’s Quest event dressed as Aphrodite, her favorite goddess.

Sorber has attended other library events, as well.

“I like having fun and meeting new people,” she said.
