Mailman mauled by dog, in intensive care

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who was to be arraigned on obstructing justice charges today after police say his dog severely mauled a mailman never made it into court.

Instead Robert Baldowski, 60, was wheeled out of Youngstown Municipal Court on a gurney by paramedics after he almost fell out of his wheelchair and was lying on the ground just before court started.

Police were called to a home in the 700 block of Verona Avenue about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday to assist a deputy dog warden, who was there because Baldowski’s half rottweiler half doberman split a mailman’s face from his jaw to his eye.

Reports said Baldowski refused to cooperate and he said he did not care if the mailman was injured, maintaining the mailman had to do something to make the dog bite him.

Baldowski was to be arrested but instead was cited and given a court date for today.

The mailman was taken to the intensive care unit at St. Elizabeth Health Center, reports said. Baldowski was also taken to St. Elizabeth by paramedics.
