Scrappers lose in Williamsport
Staff report
WILLIAMSPORT
It’s never a good sign when a baseball team’s errors equal or surpass the sum of its runs and hits.
A team rarely will overcome that sort of equation and Monday night was no exception for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
The Williamsport Crosscutters broke a tie with two runs off reliever Breily Puerta in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Scrappers made five errors and collected just three hits in a 4-2 loss in New York-Penn League play.
The Scrappers (23-34) had just three hits off three Williamsport pitchers and committed five errors.
The Crosscutters broke the tie against Puerta with a hit batsman, two singles and two errors error.
The Scrappers took a 1-0 lead in the second on Paul Hendrix’s RBI double.
