XENIA, Ohio

A southwest Ohio couple was recovering after the motorcycle they were riding was hit from behind by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle.

The accident Saturday night on U.S. 35 near Xenia is under investigation. Authorities say the riders escaped serious injury because they were wearing helmets.

Corey Waldman told WDTN-TV in Dayton that he asked another trooper to let the driver of the vehicle that hit them know that they have no hard feelings.

“I told him if you see him, tell him I forgive him because I don’t want him to be hurting real bad,” said Waldman, who is hospitalized with a broken foot and other injuries. “It’s definitely some sort of accident.”

His wife, Amy, also was treated at the hospital and was released Sunday.
