Free screenings for lung cancer

Sharon Regional Health System is offering free lung- cancer screenings as part of an ongoing community effort to aid in the early detection of lung cancer.

To be eligible to participate in the screenings individuals must have a primary-care physician and meet the following criteria: between 55 and 74 years old, smoke at least 30 packs of cigarettes per year, or be a former smoker who quit in the last 15 years and not be under a doctor’s care for a lung condition.

Humility of Mary Health Partners is hosting an adult weight management program starting in September.

Classes will be Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. from Sept. 4 to Oct. 9 in the community room of the D.D. and Velma Davis YMCA in Boardman and Thursday at the same time from Sept. 5 to Oct. 10 at St. Joe’s at the Mall in the Eastwood Mall.

Volunteer classes

Hospice of the Valley’s new volunteer class begins Sept. 6 at St. Joe’s at the Mall. Classes are from 1 to 4:30 p.m. every Friday for five weeks through Oct. 4.

Volunteers will learn what Hospice of the Valley’s team of doctors, nurses, social workers and chaplains do for patients and how volunteers assist.

St. Joe sleep lab accreditation

St. Joseph Health Center’s Diagnostic Sleep Lab in Howland has earned accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for a period of five years. The facility has changed its name to the St. Joseph Sleep Center, which became possible after the AASM accreditation.
