As studios and audiences prepare for those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer movies, let’s look back on some don’t-miss summer movies — films set around such summer staples as beaches, bungalows, vacations, camps and, of course, summer flings.
v “Jaws” (1975): It’s a cruel, cruel summer on Amity Island, where the beach is filled with folks afraid to go into the water, what with that giant killer shark out there.
v “National Lampoon’s Vacation” (1983): Nothing outside the works of author Jean Shepherd ever satirized the rituals of a car vacation with family as well as this Chevy Chase comedy.
v “American Graffiti” (1973): On the last night of summer in 1962, four small-town California teens face the future and seek a mythic blonde in a T-Bird.
v “Dirty Dancing” (1987): At a Catskills resort in the summer of ’63, nobody puts Baby in a corner.
v “Grease” (1978): Summer lovin’, had me a blast — as did audiences at the John Travolta-Olivia Newton-John greaser-and-good-girl Broadway-musical adaptation.
“Weird or What?” (9 p.m., Syfy): The premiere of this paranormal series suggests that a flying mythological Hindu creature was actually a UFO.
“Grimm” (10 p.m., NBC): The supernatural drama moves to a new and much better night.
“20/20” (10:01 p.m., ABC): Amanda Knox breaks her silence in a special edition of “20/20” that has Diane Sawyer conducting an interview with the former American exchange student whose conviction for the 2007 murder of her roommate in Italy was overturned.
“Inside Amy Schumer” (10:30 p.m., Comedy Central): The bawdy comic’s new series is crammed full of sketches, standup comedy and interviews.

Salvation Army presents singers
AUSTINTOWN
The Salvation Army of Mahoning County will present a concert of praise by the Pendel Brass and Singers at 7 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 S. Raccoon Road.
The Pendel Brass and Singers, led by Harold Burgmayer, are from Delaware and eastern Pennsylvania and perform a variety of marches, hymns and classical selections.
Admission is free, but an offering will be taken. Attendees are asked to bring canned food items.
The Salvation Army of Mahoning County’s annual Civic Dinner will be May 15 at 6 p.m. at the Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland. The event honors individuals and organizations for their commitment to service. Tickets are $70. Call 330-746-8403.
Dixie Melody Boys in concert at church
North Lima
The Dixie Melody Boys will give a free concert at the North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, at 7 p.m. May 4. A free-will offering will be taken. Call 330-549-2333. The gospel group has amassed more than 20 Top 40 hits and has appeared on the Gaither Homecoming Series and its own TV show, “Great American Gospel.”
