Renowned pipe organist in concert

Peter Richard Conte will perform a pipe-organ concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

Conte is the Grand Court organist of the Wanamaker Organ in Macy’s, Center City, Philadelphia, where he performs concerts twice daily, six days each week, on the largest fully-functional musical instrument in the world. He was appointed to the position in 1989, and is the fourth person to have that title since the organ was first played in 1911.

Conte was also recently named principal organist of Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa., where he performs on the 10,000-pipe Aeolian organ.

Conte, who performs throughout North America, has appeared as a featured artist at American Guild of Organists’ National and Regional Conventions, and at the International Organ Festival in Aosta, Italy.

An adjunct assistant professor of organ at Rider University’s Westminster Choir College, Princeton, N.J., Conte also is an associate of the American Guild of Organists.
