Funding for 325 Trumbull County youth jobs available this summer

The Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services will once again provide summer jobs to economically disadvantaged youths ages 15 to 24 in Trumbull County.

John Gargano, Job and Family Services director, said about $700,000 will be available this year, enough to pay 325 youth and up to 12 monitors for eight weeks from June 10 to Aug. 2.

Funding of $560,000 in 2012 allowed about 250 youths to be employed.

Youth selected will earn $7.85 per hour for 30 hours per week. The work generally involves maintenance activities at schools or parks. Monitors, who are usually college-aged youth, earn a little more, said Dan Polivka, Trumbull County commissioner.

Applicants must apply in person and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian if under age 18. Those 18 or under who are not attending high school must be a custodial or non-custodial parent.

Bring the following documentation at the time of application: Social Security card; driver’s license or state ID card; proof of age such as birth certificate; proof of residence such as rent receipt or bill; proof of total gross household income for the past 30 days (such as pay stubs, food stamps, unemployment, Social Security printout of all household members); school attendance.

May 1, 3 to 6 p.m., Brookfield High School.

May 4, 9 a.m. to noon, Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services, 280 North Park Avenue, Warren.

May 8, 3 to 6 p.m., Newton Falls High School.

May 9, 3 to 6 p.m., Niles McKinley High School, Niles.

May 11, 9 a.m. to noon, Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services.

May 15, 3 to 6 p.m., Liberty High School.

May 15, 3 to 6 p.m., Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services.

May 18, 9 a.m. to noon, Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services.

May 22, 3 to 6 p.m., Joseph Badger High School.
