Girls track team loses Fed meet

The Boardman girls track team opened its Federal League season with a 96-41 loss to Canton GlenOak. Senior standout thrower Giovanna Silvestri took the only first-place honors for the team by winning the shot put and discus with throws of 38-0 and 116-6 in those events.

The girls in the shot put also took the only sweep of the meet, taking all three places in the event. Senior Daisy Robinson took second in the shot put with a toss of 36-2 and was second in the discus, throwing 110-9. Sophomore Ka’nisha White placed third in the shot with a season-best throw of 34-10.

Second place individual honors went to senior Sarina Mauerman in the pole vault with a height of 9-0, sophomore Hope Landers in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.37, junior Brandi Gatte in the 1600 (5:42.45), sophomore Regan O’Hara in the 800 (2:34.49), senior Daisy Corso in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:52.13 and freshman Arianna Cuevas in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.65.

Taking third place individual honors was freshman Sydney Lewis in the long jump with a leap of 14- Ω, sophomore Stephanie DeMain in the 100-meter hurdles (17.95), junior Morgan Hambrick in the high jump (4-10), junior Trista Cunningham (5:47.41) in the 1600-meter run, sophomore Heaton O’Hara (65.24) in the 400-meter dash, Landers in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.62 and Gatte in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:05.37.
