Howland recycling and sale events scheduled

HOWLAND

Township residents will be able to recycle paper and electronics for free and save on garage-sale permits starting May 4.

They can bring up to five large garbage bags of paper/documents to shred from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 in the parking lot of the gazebo next to Howland High School at no cost.

Protect-N-Shred has been retained to shred the documents. The paper will be recycled to make products such as paper towels, toilet tissue and paper plates.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18, township residents can recycle electronics in the gazebo parking lot. The Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste District and Great East Metals will accept computers, keyboards and small appli-ances. They provide certified destruction of computer hard drives and also recycle parts. There is no charge for most items.

A Howland community garage sale will take place May 31 and June 1 with no permit fee. Garage-sale locations will be advertised for those who sign up by May 17 at the township administration building, 205 Niles-Cortland Road, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
