Families gained a new appreciation for the outdoors while having fun during “Antlers and Anglers” at Boardman Park Sept. 15. The event, which was part of Armstrong’s “Breaking Bread” campaign donated 100 percent of the proceeds collected to Second Harvest Food Bank along with canned goods.

“The goal was to provide a family-friendly activity and make it affordable. Armstrong is a family-owned business and it’s very important to them to give back to the community that has given to then for so long. People have been welcoming and generous and the kids are having a blast,” said Armstrong employee, Krista White.

Eager children lined up to catch catfish and trout in a created pond. Some even tried their hand at shooting a bow and arrow. The event also included activities for adults, such as, a knife display and a water and boat safety class.

“This is a celebration of the outdoors. Our mission is to encourage people to get outside. We have a lot of stuff for families and adults to do, including archery, wagon rides and a duck line. There are also many outdoor groups that have come to display as well,” said Boardman Park Activity Director, Karen McCallum.

Participants enjoyed the variety of the event and were excited to have fun with their children.

“It’s my first time attending this and I really enjoy it. There’s something for adults and children,” said Erin Ligore.
