A sergeant in the Lowellville Police Department is on administrative leave because a protection order was filed against him.

Lowellville Mayor Jim Iudiciani said this week that Sgt. Jason Goist went on paid leave after being served Monday.

His wife, Danielle Goist, filed for protection last Friday in Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court after an argument turned physical at the couple’s home on Woodbine Avenue in Struthers on Sept. 18, according to documents on file with the court.

Goist also filed a protection order against his wife Tuesday. It’s unclear if the order has been served, court personnel said.

A full hearing is set at 8 a.m Tuesday on both orders.

Struthers Police were called to the couple’s house late Sept. 18 when “both parties confirmed they were having a verbal dispute,” according to a police report.

Complaints in each protection order detail a physical altercation, with each spouse giving different versions of how it started and what occurred. Goist left the residence after police came. No charges have been filed.

Iudiciani said he consulted with the village’s legal counsel about what to do and was told to put Goist on leave.

Iudiciani said Goist can’t carry a gun while the restraining order is in effect.
