It's official: Jury selection begins Nov. 26 in Akron for remaining YSU shooting defendants

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County court officials today confirmed that jury selection will be Nov. 26 in Summit County Common Pleas Court, Akron, for the last four defendants charged with the fatal shooting of a Youngstown State University senior and wounding others at an off-campus party in February 2011.

Robert Regula, court administrator, said the date had been cleared with Summit court officials to begin selecting a pool of potential jurors for the trial.

Judge John M. Durkin on Thursday granted a defense motion for a change of venue. The judge, prosecutors and defense lawyers all agreed it would be highly unlikely an impartial jury could be seated in Mahoning County.

The combined trial will be for defendants Mark Jones, Jamelle Jackson, Demetrius Wright and Brandon Carter. Jones' brother, Columbus, was convicted this summer on charges that put him in prison for 92 years.
