‘Casino Night’ raises Alzheimer’s awareness

Residents at Sunrise Senior Living Community partied with a purpose during the facility’s “Casino Night” Sept. 14. Money raised was donated to local Alzheimer’s Network.
Funds from the event were used to support local families and research in the area. Volunteer Dorothy Leone was excited to spread awareness about the disease and help others in need.
“It’s amazing how a lot of people don’t know we are here. We are local and any of our events are for local families. The important thing is that we’re all volunteers and everyone of us has cared for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. We’ve taken the journey and we’re all sharing our experiences with families that need education and support,” Leone said.
Residents and staff members showed their support for the Alzheimer’s Network and also made time to enjoy themselves while playing games.
“There are games of chance, bingo and food. We work with the Alzheimer’s Network because half of our residents are affected with Alzheimer’s disease and we’re trying to find a cure,” said Director of Community Relations Jacki Jones.
