Boardman Glenwood tops Springfield

BGMS’s seventh-grade team defeated Springfield 25-11 and 25-10 to improve to 5-5 on the season. Ashley Clark led with four aces, Marissa Sudac had two aces, and Sydney Hull had two aces and two assists.

The eighth-grade team fell to Springfield 25-10, 15-25 and 23-25 to make them 2-8 on the season. Charlotte Voytko led with four aces, Kristen Bean had two blocks, and Nico Martino had three assists.

BGMS competes in league championship

The Boardman Glenwood cross country team competed in the Suburban League Championship in Canfield. The boys team ran well in tough conditions. Nathaniel Ams led the team with a 16th-overall finish out of 218 runners. The girls team, led by Casey Zaitzew, finished in the middle of the pack overall.

Varsity boys soccer

The Boardman High School boys soccer team now stands at 4-3-3 on the season with a 1-1-1 record in the Federal League. The Spartans played at Uniontown Lake on Sept. 18 in league action and had to do so with both of the teams starting forwards and leading scorer on the bench with injuries. The Spartans managed a 0-0 tie with senior Anthony Calautti making six saves as the goalkeeper.

On Sept. 20, BHS went to Salem and defeated a 7-2 Quaker team by a score of 3-1. Scoring for BHS was handled by senior Raul Bosca and juniors Fabio Bassil and Luke Marsco, with assists credited to seniors Ray Peters, Alan Olson and junior Alex Thomas. Calautti had five saves for the Spartans.

Boardman Glenwood tops Hubbard

BGMS’s seventh-grade volleyball team improved to 4-5 on the year by defeating Hubbard 25-14 and 25-15. Briawna Santiago led the team with five aces followed by Rachel Hritz with four aces. The eighth-grade team fell to 2-7 on the year after a loss to Hubbard 18-25 and 21-25. Faith Clear had three aces and Lexi Stutz lead defensively.

Junior varsity boys soccer results

The junior varsity team now holds a record of 4-4-2 for the season. They played at Uniontown Lake on Sept. 18 and fell to Lake 2-1 with Cameron Missos assisting on Nick Mancini’s lone goal for BHS. Brian Fryda had four saves for Boardman. The JV team faced the Salem Quakers on Sept. 20 and came out victorious with a score of 2-0. Scores came from brothers Vince and Nick Mancini. Assisting on the goals were Zach Fryda and Matt Perham. Brian Fryda had five saves as the keeper.

Match against Lakeview rescheduled

The Boardman boys soccer game against undefeated Lakeview on Sept. 6 was suspended with the Bulldogs holding a 2-0 lead near the end of the first half.

The game will resume Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.

Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic

Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, is running. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.

These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
