Varsity soccer loses to Poland
The Fitch girls soccer team was defeated by Poland 1-0 on Monday. Fitch goalkeeper Jessica Scott blocked 12 Poland shots. The junior varsity team defeated Poland 1-0.
Girls golf beat by Canfield
The girls golf team lost to Canfield 172-205 on Monday at the Diamondback golf course. Leading the Austintown team were Rachel Williamson (46), Jamie Rasor (50), Jackie Choma (54) and Chelsea Raymer (55).
Girls golf defeats Struthers
The Fitch girls golf team defeated Struthers 185-219 on Sept. 17 at the Knoll Run golf course. Leading Fitch were Rachel Williamson (39), Jamie Rasor (47), Jackie Choma (48) and Kelly Vesey (51).
Defense paves way for Falcons
The Fitch boys soccer team has been on a roll, winning four games in the last two weeks.
The team defeated Beaver Local 2-0 with goals scored by Ben Gillespie and Nate Bowlen. The Falcons had 51 shots on goal during this game.
They then beat Niles 1-0 with the lone goal coming from Ben Conley. Austintown tallied 31 shots on goal. The match against Howland ended 1-0 with the goal by Vince Ortenzio.
Fitch also beat Hubbard 3-0 with goals by Nate Bowlen, Terry Worrell and Kenneth Kilpatrick.
Girls soccer defeats Lakeview
The Austintown girls soccer team defeated Lakeview 3-2 on Sept. 22. Two of Austintown’s goals were scored by Lauren Bower, with another by Krista Martin. Assists were made by Kaelyn Puhalla and Jayme Ritchie. Fitch attempted three corner kicks and made a total of nine shots on goal. Fitch goalkeeper Jessica Scott blocked 10 of 12 Lakeview shots.
Boys golf loses to Poland
The Fitch boys golf team lost to Poland 162-171 on Sept. 20 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading the team were Vince Goleno (40), Matt Matasy (43), Joey Shushok (44) and Cameron Gumble (44).
Girls golf competes at AAC
The Austintown girls golf team competed in the AAC Tournament at the Tamer Win golf course on Sept. 19. Top players for Fitch were Rachel Williamson (86), who placed fourth out of 54 players, Chelsea Raymer (105), Jamie Rasor (108), Kelly Vesey (111), Jaclynn Choma (116) and Emily Wyant (124).
AMS Red eighth-grade loses to Poland, Howland
On Sept. 17, AMS Red eighth-grade volleyball lost to Poland 25-15, 25-18. On Sept. 19, the AMS Red eighth-grade volleyball team lost to Howland 25-21, 22-25, 25-23.
Girls varsity soccer results
The Austintown Fitch girls soccer team defeated Niles 5-0 on Sept. 19. Goals were scored by Lauren Bower (2), Kaelyn Puhalla, Meghan Shonce, and Mandi Koch. Assists were added by Meghan Shonce, Lauren Bower and Kaelyn Puhalla, Goalkeeper Jessica Scott saved 10 shots. The junior varsity team defeated Niles 3-0.
Fitch wins golf match
The Fitch girls golf team won a match at Deer Creek golf course on Sept. 17 with a score of 186. Leading the team were Rachel Williamson (38), Jamie Rasor (48), Kelly Vesey (49) and Jackie Choma (51). The other teams at the match were Ashtabula Lakeside (215) and Jefferson (225).
Austintown loses to Poland
The Austintown volleyball team lost to Poland 25-18, 20-25, 26-24, 21-25, 15-11 on Sept. 18. The leading server was Cali Mikovich with a total of 10 points and five aces. The leading attacker was Maura Bianco with 30 attempts and eight kills. Leading setter, Tiffany Rapovy, had 50 attempts and 13 assists. Alana Callahan was the leading defender with 28 serve receptions and 26 digs. Leading Blocker, Taylor Herman had two blocks.

The Fitch boy golf team defeated Hubbard 171-173 on Sept. 17. Leading the team for Fitch were Matt Matasy (40), Joey Shushok (42), Adam Catauro (44) and Cameron Gumble (45).
Night at the Races
The Austintown Little Falcons will be hosting Night at the Races onW Saturday from 7-11 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road.
Tickets are $20 each, two tickets for $30, which includes dinner, pop or beer, as well as a cash bar for mixed drinks and wine. There will be 10 video races, an auction race, and basket raffle. This is an adult fundraiser only for people 21 and over. Proceeds benefit Austintown Little Falcons football and cheerleading programs. Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic
Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, is underway. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.
These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
