EEOC to visit NAACP unit

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s mobile outreach center will visit the Youngstown unit of the NAACP from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to accept complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation.

The EEOC considers retaliation the firing of a worker who complained about job discrimination, gave evidence in a job- discrimination matter or filed a charge of job discrimination with the commission.

The local unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is in Suite 721 in the former PNC Bank Building at Wick Avenue and Commerce Street, downtown Youngstown.

Kohl’s donates to Akron Children’s

Kohl’s Department Stores today donated $303,178 to Akron Children’s Hospital for the hospital’s Kohl’s Future Fitness Club program, $65,466 of which will go to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley to start area fitness programs.

The Kohl’s Future Fitness Club, made possible by Kohl’s Community Youth Fitness and Akron Children’s, is a low-cost group weight-management program for children age 8 to 13 that promotes gradual and safe weight loss.

This is the first year money will be dedicated to programs in the Mahoning Valley.

Museum Day Live at the Arms on Wick

The Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave, will open its doors for free Saturday for the eighth annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live.

The Arms Family Museum will grant free admission for one day to visitors who download a Museum Day Live ticket at Smithsonian.com. Each ticket admits two people. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
