Great Expectations Day Care is having an open house for parents at The First United Methodist Church on 48 Church St. starting at 6 p.m. today. The event is an opportunity for families to see the new infant, toddler and preschool learning center that recently opened in the church. Light refreshments also will be served.
Cancer fundraiser

The Rose Mary Flanagan Ovarian Cancer Foundation is having a Teal-tini fundraising event from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Youngstown Crab Co., 3917 Belmont Ave.
The $15-per-person cost includes appetizers and a cocktail. There also will be a disc jockey and vendors.
The Rose Mary Flanagan Ovarian Cancer Foundation is committed to working together with the community to promote awareness of ovarian cancer and fund research leading to the development of an early detection test and more- effective treatment options. Rose Mary Flanagan Foundation started after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008. She died in July.
3 suspects caught

Police caught three people they suspect of breaking into cars on Porter Avenue, a report says.
The three were caught about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Porter.
Two juveniles were released to their guardians, the report says.
The third suspect, Davonte Whitfield, 18, of Roxbury Avenue in Youngstown, is charged with theft, criminal trespass, contributing to delinquency and obstructing official business. His arraignment is set for this morning in Campbell Municipal Court.
Street sweeper hits woman

A street sweeper hit a pedestrian on the Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage Police reported.
Kirsten Fellows, 42, of Grant Street in Sharon was walking in the westbound passing lane of the road at 3:39 a.m. Saturday when a street sweeper owned by Commercial Property Maintenance and driven by Kenneth Williams, 39, of West State Street in Sharon struck her. She was knocked 25 feet away.
She was taken to Sharon Regional Health System for treatment. No charges have been filed.
Autumn Fest planned
EAST LEWISTON
The annual Autumn Fest at the Beaver Township Nature Preserve on state Route 165 will be 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Admission and activities are free. Refreshments will be sold by the 4-H Club.
The event is sponsored by Beaver Township Park Board and will feature hay rides, pony rides and a petting zoo.
There also will be several demonstrations, such as rope-making, and exhibits including “Birds of Flight,” “Bugs Unlimited” and an antique-tractor display.
The Columbiana-Mahoning County Beekeepers will be at the event, and the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will host a reptile display.
