BOARDMAN
Township police are investigating two weekend robberies, one involving a gun and the other a knife.
Police were called to Family Dollar, 4030 Market St., about 8:50 p.m. Saturday. A store employee said two men walked up to her and another employee, dragged them to the front register and pointed a gun at them, demanding money, according to reports.
Police said when the robbers saw there was no money in the drawer, they told an employee to open a safe and held a gun to the employee’s neck as she reached into the safe.
The two men fled on foot, and a police dog was unable to track them, records state.
A customer fled the store after seeing the suspects pull masks over their faces and reported the robbery from a nearby fast-food restaurant, police said.
One suspect was described as a thin, black man of average height and wearing a blue hooded sweat shirt and jeans. The second suspect was described as a husky, black man of average height wearing dark blue and gray shorts and a blue hooded sweat shirt.
Later that night, police were called to the Circle K on Lockwood Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. when two men carrying knives entered the store and threatened an employee, according to records.
Police said an employee emptied the cash-register drawer, and the men also took six packs of cigarettes. A police dog was able to track them through woods along U.S. Route 224, but the trail ended in a parking lot, where police believe a car may have been waiting, reports stated.
One suspect was described as a white man between age 19 and 21 weighing about 175 pounds, with short brown hair and wearing a short-sleeve T-shirt and tan shorts with a neon green bandanna over his mouth.
The second suspect was described as a white man between age of 19 and 23, weighing about 150 pounds, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and wearing tan pants, a dark zip-up sweat shirt and a blue baseball hat with a red brim.
Anyone with information is asked to call Boardman police.
