BOARDMAN

A township man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase will be back in court Oct. 30.

Patrick B. Hughes, 33, of Parkside Drive, did not enter a plea to a fleeing and eluding charge at his Thursday evening arraignment in Mahoning County Area Court.

Police said Hughes was speeding on South Avenue about 1 a.m. Thursday and ran a red light while turning left from South Avenue onto Western Reserve Road.

An officer then attempted to stop Hughes, who ran the red light at Western Reserve at the Interstate 680 interchange and didn’t stop at the Five Points intersection, according to reports.

The officer noted his cruiser was traveling at about 90 miles per hour and was about to call off the chase when Hughes apparently lost control on Western Reserve Road, east of Beard Road, reports stated.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol cited Hughes for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol when he refused to take a breath test and Boardman police charged him with fleeing and eluding, according to court records.

Hughes is free on an $8,000 bond.
