WARREN

A 36-year-old North Leavitt Road woman reported being robbed near her home at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman said she had just left the Circle K store, 1361 North Leavitt, when a white male asked her for money. While looking in her purse, another person pushed her down from behind. The suspects took her purse, which contained a debit card, and fled.

The woman didn’t notify police right away because “she thought nothing could be done,” she told police.

Lane restrictions

NORTH LIMA

From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, state Route 7 between Western Reserve Road and state Route 164 will have various lane restrictions for paving operations.

Free pumpkins

WARREN

The Jail Garden Project, under the direction of Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere, will give away free pumpkins to children starting at 11 a.m. today at the Warren Family Mission, 361 Elm Road NE. The sheriff will be there to give out pumpkins personally.

Burglaries probed

HUBBARD

City police are investigating two burglaries Thursday.

Both were reported around 11:30 a.m., said Police Sgt. David Oaks. The first call came from the 200 block of West Park Avenue, while the second occurred in the 1000 block of Doris Avenue. Both homes had back doors that were kicked in before the interiors were ransacked, said Oaks. He said neither of the homeowners were around when the burglaries occurred, and the amount of the stolen goods was unknown. Police aren’t sure if the incidents are connected.

The burglaries are the fifth and sixth this week in the city, said Oaks.

Woman wins lottery

Youngstown

Although Debra R. Kettering lives in Greenville, Pa., she became a millionaire when she crossed the state line to play an Ohio Lottery game. Kettering won a million dollars in the Ohio Lottery’s instant game $200 Million Extreme Cash.

Filing a claim in the Youngstown Regional office Wednesday, Kettering chose the cash option. After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 29 percent, Kettering will receive a lump-sum payment of $355,000. Her other pre-tax option was $50,000 a year for 20 years.

Kettering purchased her million-dollar winning ticket from Village Party Center, 1800 state Route 7 NE, Brookfield. The store will receive a $10,000 agent bonus for selling a top-prize winning ticket.

OVI checkpoint

SOUTHINGTON

An Operating a vehicle impaired checkpoint will be in Trumbull County tonight at a location to be announced later, the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Southington said.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by a federal grant, is intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

“Based on provisional data, there were 371 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 396 people were killed last year in Ohio,” Lt. Brian Holt, commander of the Southington post, said.

“State troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”

Voter Registration Day

Youngstown

National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, and to celebrate, the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown will be registering voters at the Austintown, East Newport, Canfield and Main libraries.

In cooperation with the league’ efforts, Rebecca Soldan, a Youngstown State University student, and her friends will be registering voters on campus. The league contacted Mahoning and Trumbull county teachers of history, government and social studies to encourage eligible high school students to register on that day.
