Fun Time for 4s and 5s story time at the Canfield library followed a foodie theme on Sept. 11, as children’s librarian Kelly Marafiote focused on food as she chose books, rhymes and songs for the children.

Marafiote started the story time by reading the children “Mouse Went Out to Get a Snack,” and then recited the rhyme “Ten Little Cookies,” which focused on counting chocolate chip cookies.

Marafiote read the book “The Beastly Feast” next and then showed the children how to view a storybook on an iPad. She explained to the parents in the room how to navigate the library’s web site to get to videos of storybooks that the children could watch. She then played for them “Little Pea.”

In keeping with the foodie theme, Marafiote sang the song “Flip Flap Jack” to the children as she ‘built’ Flip Flap Jack out of cutouts of breakfast food on her display board.

To close out the Fun Time for 4s and 5s story time, Marafiote sang “If You’re Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands” and changed the last verse to say goodbye and invite them back to the next story time.

But before it was time for the children to leave, and once again keeping with the foodie theme, Marafiote invited them to make a colorful pasta necklace to take home. The children used yarn and dyed pasta to create colorful necklaces as a remembrance of their time at the library.
