‘Fire of Faith’ meeting planned by ACTION

The faith-based community organizing group ACTION will have a public meeting with the theme, “Fire of Faith,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave.

The meeting of the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighbor- hoods will give members of the community an opportunity to engage with public officials, including candidates, and to discuss which policies and priorities are consistent with their faith values.

Invited guests include U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th; state Senator Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd; Superintendent of Youngstown City Schools Dr. Connie Hathorn; Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley; and Youngstown mayor’s Chief of Staff DeMaine Kitchen. Participants will discuss issues related to the economy, public education, crime and safety, youth development and abandoned homes.

The session will be co-hosted by the Rev. Edward P. Noga, pastor of St. Patrick, and the Rev. Dwayne Heard, president of ACTION and pastor of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.

Music for the event will be provided by community choirs.
